Believed to be 1 of only 4 UK supplied Speedster's ever made.
Porsche's immortal Speedster was born out of the vision of North-American importer Max Hoffman, legendary for bringing open-top European sports cars to the burgeoning US Market. Based on the early Porsche open road racing 550’s bodied by Erich Heuer's Glaser Karosserie, the Speedster took shape with Hoffman's view, that a mid-market gap existed for a no-frills road/race convertible. Reutter smoothed over the original bodywork design, to result in a famous aerodynamic shape, which eventually proved to be one of Porsche's most celebrated designs of all time.
This iconic model from the James Dean era of Porsche in the USA is one of the most collectable post-war classics, this particular example was completed in 1958 and is a very genuine and extremely rare factory right-hand drive example.
It is understood that there were only 4 UK supplied Speedsters to have left Stuttgart with this configuration.
Most of its life was spent in the dry Australian climate and then this outstanding example was the subject of a three year “nut and bolt” restoration by a prominent Porsche specialist in Victoria State, Australia. A full photographic history of the restoration is included in the file. Finished in its original colours Stone Grey ( 5710A ) with red interior the condition of the car is exceptional. Also, present are the side curtains and a perfect hard-top in black. This wonderfully presented Speedster is sure to attract the attention of any Zuffenhausen enthusiast. It is eminently suitable for both spirited open-air motoring and vintage Competition events or club meets.
This is a unique opportunity to acquire the rarest Speedster of all, the RHD version that is up to date in driving performance.
